Making Your Wedding Film Truly Unique: The Unspoken Memory of Personal Letters

Oliver Reeve

Your wedding day is one of the most memorable days of your life, filled with emotions, laughter, and love. As you plan this epic celebration, why not add a little twist that will make your wedding film truly yours? You don't have to do much, something as simple as writing a personal letter to each other on the morning of your wedding. The catch is to let me know so I can record you reading it out-loud! But don't just take my words for it, see for yourself, or should I say hear !

Why Personal Letters?

Picture this: you're waiting for your make-up or hair to start, waiting for your coffee to cool, and you open a heartfelt (and possibly tear jerking) letter from your soon-to-be spouse. Cue the happy tears, laughter, and all the feels. These letters let you express your deepest feelings, recount your funniest memories, and share your dreams for the future. When recorded, these moments become a priceless part of your wedding film, adding a layer of magic that scripted vows just can’t match.

Sold? Great here are my top tips !

What you could include in your letters:

1. The Journey to Where You Are Now

   - Share your favorite escapades, inside jokes, and those unforgettable moments that led you here. Highlight the times you’ve laughed until you cried, like that disastrous first date or the time you got lost on vacation.

2. Promises for the Future

   - Make sincere promises that show your love. Think beyond the usual vows – like always supporting each other’s dreams, promising to never watch your favorite show without the other, or agreeing to handle spider duty forever.

3. Your Favorite Thing About the Other

   - Gush about what you adore most about your partner. Maybe it’s their quirky humour, their ability to quote every episode of Friends, or how they always know how to make you laugh. These sweet details will bring a smile (and maybe a tear) to everyone watching.

4. Your Future Plans for Your Relationship

   - Share your dreams for your life together. Whether it’s starting a family, traveling the globe, or simply binge-watching your favorite shows every weekend, these plans will add a hopeful and exciting vibe to your film.

The Impact of Personal Letters on Your Wedding Film

Including personal letters in your wedding film is like adding sprinkles to an ice cream – it makes it extra special. As you read your letters, the camera captures every genuine smile, tear, and laugh, creating a beautiful, heartfelt narrative. This peek into your relationship adds a fun and emotional touch that makes your film truly unique. Often I don't film you reading it rather record your voice as a voice-over, but if we have a large lush window (see below !) I cant resist!

An Alternative: Speaking from the Heart

If writing letters feels like too much pressure, how about speaking a few kind words about each other during your speeches? I have a whole blog about that too! Maids of honour, bridal party, parents and groomsmen can get involved in this too, give them the assignment and ask me to capture it on the morning before the main event. These could be awesome surprise messages, you don't hear until your film arrives. I'm sure your cherished loved ones will jump at the opportunity if they are given a little time to write something truely from the heart - ask you don't know what might happen !

Final Thoughts

Your wedding day is a celebration of your unique love story, and capturing it on film lets you relive those amazing moments for years to come. By writing personal letters or speaking from the heart, you bring authenticity and emotion to your wedding film, making it a treasure for you and future generations.

So, as you plan your special day, think about the fun and heartfelt impact of personal letters. Let your words be a testament to your journey, your promises, your admiration for each other, and your dreams for the future. These elements will transform your wedding film into a timeless, fun-filled piece of art that truly reflects your one-of-a-kind love story.
