Brogan and Adam: A Stretton Manor Barn Wedding Full of Blossom and Big Hugs

Some weddings feel less like a job and more like a reunion, and Brogan and Adam’s Stretton Manor Barn wedding near Chesterfield was one of them. I’d already had the pleasure of filming Brogan’s sister Bryony’s wedding, so it was a genuine joy to see Brogan again, along with Brogan’s mum and dad and so many familiar faces among the guests.

The day itself was May in the Derbyshire countryside at its best: hedgerows frothy with white blossom, a light that seemed to last all day, and a lot of sage green, black tie, big hugs and laughing. I wanted to write it down properly, in order, as I saw it through the lens. Morning: sage green pyjamas, bubbles and bridal prep

The day began with the details laid out on a bright white surface: crystal drop earrings, three rings tucked into a sage green velvet box, a bottle of Charlotte Tilbury’s Star Confidence (a good name for a wedding morning) and a pair of ivory heels embroidered with pearls and tiny flowers. Then there was the veil, which carried a B & A monogram stitched in lace. I love details like these, because they say so much about a couple before anyone has spoken.

Then came the important business: coupe glasses of bubbles, sage green satin pyjamas for the bridal party and a great deal of laughing. Hair was in the hands of Hannah Taylor and makeup was by Hannah Atter, so this was a morning with two Hannahs and not one dull moment.

That’s Brogan’s sister Bryony, whose own wedding I’d filmed, on the far left next to their mum, with Brogan in the middle in the white robe. Seeing the family together again made the morning feel like catching up with old friends, and it gave me exactly what I’m always looking for on a wedding morning: the moments in between, like a shared joke, a glass raised and a wave of giggles. Before the ceremony: black tie, Brogan's first look with dad and one big hug

Meanwhile, Adam’s party had gone full black tie: tuxedos, bow ties and a white calla lily on every lapel. The hedge-lined lane made the perfect catwalk.

Then came a moment I always hope for: Brogan’s first look with dad, on white gravel with the Derbyshire fields stretching out behind.

The hug that followed said everything. Having filmed Bryony’s wedding, this one meant a little extra to me, and it’s one of those moments I’m always glad to have on film.

The ceremony at Stretton Manor Barn: stone walls, candlelight and a fist in the air

The ceremony room is a beautiful space to film: warm stone walls, a herringbone floor and big bright windows. Styling by Rustic Rose Events and flowers by Olivara Blooms kept things simple and natural: wooden chairs with white sashes, a draped wooden arch and glass lanterns with candles and greenery down the aisle.

Then Brogan walked down the aisle on dad’s arm, past a room full of smiling faces, so many of them familiar to me.

At the front, Brogan and Adam held hands and shared smiles. It’s the quietest part of the day and the one I film with the most care, because there’s only ever one take.

And then Adam’s fist went straight up in the air while Brogan beamed.

Afternoon: couple portraits in the Derbyshire countryside

After the ceremony, Brogan and Adam headed out onto the quiet lanes for portraits, with the hedgerows in full blossom on either side. There was no stiff posing, just two people making the most of some time together and plenty of kisses. Adam dipped Brogan for one dramatic kiss, and there was a quiet moment for the rings: two hands pressed together, rings on.

Drinks reception: fascinators, phones out and live guitar

Back at the barn, the drinks reception was in full swing. Fascinators and florals mingled with bow ties and beer bottles, phones came out for selfies and the whole place filled with chat and laughter. It was so nice to catch up with lots of familiar faces, Brogan’s mum and dad included, and to meet plenty of new ones too.

Speeches: Brogan's dad, the maid of honour and a delighted bride

Speeches are always one of my favourite parts of a wedding to film, so if you’re planning one of your own, my wedding speech tips might help. Brogan’s dad stood in front of the stone wall with a sheet of paper and a microphone while the room listened.

The maid of honour also took the microphone, standing beside the wedding cake: a semi-naked beauty dressed in white flowers.

Brogan’s reaction says it all: both arms in the air and a whoop of joy, with Adam clapping beside and dad standing close by.

Evening: golden hour, then a dance floor full of guests

As the light softened, we slipped away for a few golden hour portraits, which is how we ended up with the photo at the top of this page: Brogan and Adam by a gate, the low sun glowing through the hedgerow. It’s the light I wait for on an evening like this, and it turned the lane into a film set.

Then it was back to the party: phones in the air, glasses raised, plenty of singing and a dance floor that filled up with friends and family.

It was a real pleasure to film a second wedding for the family, and so lovely to see so many familiar faces again. Thank you, Brogan and Adam, for having me along.

Filming a wedding at Stretton Manor Barn

Stretton Manor Barn is a contemporary barn set in 22 acres of Derbyshire countryside near Chesterfield, and it gives a wedding videographer plenty to work with. Here’s what stood out to me on Brogan and Adam’s day:

  • The ceremony room. Warm stone walls, a herringbone wood floor and big bright windows give beautiful natural light and plenty of texture on camera.
  • The grounds. Hedge-lined lanes, gravel paths and open fields make it easy to find a fresh backdrop for portraits, and the low evening sun is glorious.
  • The terrace. Glass doors open the drinks reception out to the fields, which makes for relaxed, candid footage.
  • The colours. Sage green and black tie looked fantastic against the stone and greenery.
